White Lie (05-06)

White Lie was a punk band from Redding, and the first band I ever played drums in. The sound of the band was really influenced by Redd Kross, The Germs, The Misfits, and Dead Kennedys. I can't say we were as cool as our influences, but we had really great time playing together and getting into trouble. The band formed in I think early 2005 and broke up in the summer of 2006. In the short time the band was around, it went through a bunch of line up changes. Not being a founding member, this is how I ended up in the band. When the original drummer got kicked out in the summer of 2005, I joined on drums after only learning how to play a few months earlier. In our time as a band we tried to accomplish as much as we could with our limited means and knowledge. We recorded a demo, played every where we could, got disqualified at the Civic Center battle of the bands, played Chico once, met some cool people, made some rad friends, and earned a little following. In June of 2006 things came to an end, though, when we suffered the tragedy of our bass player Julie passing away. After she passed, it didn't feel right to continue on, so we decided to disband. She is still greatly missed by us all.

Since the line up changed so many times, it would take too long to list them all, so I'm only going to list the ending line up.

Barefoot Army (01-03)

Barefoot Army (BFA) was what I'd call a thrash band, but they also had a pretty unique sound mixing different genre elements of punk, metal, thrash, and even ska in one of their songs. The first Redding show I ever went to in the spring of 2003 at the Millville Grange Barefoot Army was the opening band. I'd been to a handful of other concerts before, but this was the first hardcore/punk show I'd ever been to, and during their set was the first time I ever went into a pit as well. Sadly, though, I only saw this band twice before they broke up. During that time I wasn't all that into them musically either, just the energy of their live shows. It wasn't until a while after they'd broke up that I got really into them, and their stuff grew on me. Which is at the same time I got bummed that I never really got to appreciate them while they were still around. I'm happy I at least have their albums.

Their old website is no longer up, but one of their guitar players Myke made a myspce for them some years ago. http://www.myspace.com/barefootarmysince2001

Don't Join Up
I won't die for this nation
I won't die, for this lost cause
I won't kill, for this nation
You don't like it, I don't fucking care
Chorus: Die with your money, your morals your god
And die with your system, you're living a fraud
Die with your ego, your gun and big dick
And die with your nation, it's making me sick
I don't see, how you sit back
Take part, in their games
Don't join up, and support their murder
You don't like it, I don't fucking care
Don't join up, or go and kill
Don't join up, and end up dead

American Waste 03-05

When I first started going to shows in Redding when I was 15 in 2003, American Waste was the first local band besides Till Death that I got into. They played damn near every show I went to from 2003-2004. They were always good too and were known for doing great covers. Covers from Black Flag (Rise Above, Six Pack, Louie Louie, American Waste), F-Minus (We're All Deadmen), Operation Ivy (Jaded), and even Slayer (Raining Blood)! It was a sad day when they played their last show at The Space in the spring of 2005. They will always have a special place in my heart when it comes to the Redding scene.

Why Start This Blog?

I have decided to start this blog to share past and present bands from the Redding area. I have been going to shows in Redding for almost 10 years now and have had some many experiences in it's punk/hardcore scene. I really want to share and give back to people the music that has shaped this town for me. I know Curt Baer did a blog just like this one named Redding Music Archive a couple of years ago, but since that blog has stopped, I want to pick up where it left off by covering bands from the late 90's through present. Hopefully I can have the time to keep this blog going! I will try my best to keep it updated.
