Heffer Wolfe - Rats! Rats! Rats! EP
I went to a show at Going Local back in January and had a chance to see Heffer Wolfe's first show. After their set, a couple of my friends and I were like, "who where those guys! and man that ruled!" I'm stoked to see that they have been playing more shows around the area and have released their first release, "Rats! Rats! Rats!" The album's sound is built around short funk songs in the vein of the Minutemen but with their own modern approaches to the style. If you dig short funky songs you can dance to but also rock out to, I recommend you give this album a listen

Till Death - The Patchcord Sessions (2003)
The very first Redding hardcore/punk show I ever went to was with Till Death, American Standard (later American Waste), The Red Robot, Barefoot Army, and The Melodramatics at the Millville Grange with my cousin Ryan Dodge and Terrence Fannin. I didn't know anyone else at the show except for Ryan and Terrance, so I felt really shy and awkward. The very first person I ran into after walking in the door, though, was Nate Corbin. We already knew each other from skating the CV park together, so we started talking. After talking for a little while, Shannen Hansen (now the drummer in Hysterics) came up with some pictures to show Nate she'd taken of a band playing. I noticed one of them was with Nate on drums. I asked, "you play in a band?" He said "yeah, we're playing tonight too." The band was Till Death, and their set ruled! It was filled with circle pits and a 7 Seconds cover of "Young Till I Die." A week or so later, I ran into Nate at the CV skate park with Ryan and Terrance, and he gave us three burned copies of Till Death's "Patchcord Sessions." If I remember right, though, only one of them actually worked haha. But it didn't really matter, because we were stoked he took the time hook us up. Listening to the "Patchcord Sessions" always takes me back to that time in my life and in the scene. Feeling shy, but extremely excited to be at the shows and be part of the energy.

Suburban American: One & Two
Suburban American One (2000) and Two (2001) doesn't really have anything to do with Redding history since they only have Chico area bands on them. Expect I think Suburban American Two features some Redding related bands like the Kansas City Stars? Regardless though, I figured since I posted Suburban American Three I should post parts One and Two. Suburban American One has always been my personal favorite out of the series too.Suburban American One recommend tracks to check out:
- P.A.W.N.S. "Fishy, Fishy, Fishy"
- Nogoodnix "Father of The Year" & "Land Of Poverty"
- Smeat "Fashion Punk" & "Indentured Servants"- Face Down "Without You"
- Callous Neglect "Dehumanized" & "Face Down" (the lyrics to this song still give me chills)
Suburban American Two recommend tracks to check out:
- Face Down "Callous Neglect" (American Waste covered this on their full length in 2004) & "Bad Cops"
- Gruk "Azlin" & "Enemy"
- P.A.W.N.S."Livestock of Fools" & "Factor III"
- Nogoodnix "Carlo" & "#1"
- Slag "Back In 80"
- Smeat "Ex-Girlfriend" & "Come Loud"

Suburban American #3
Suburban America #3 is a comp from 2003 that features a number of punk bands from around the Redding / Chico area of that time. Notable bands from this comp are American Waste (redding), Barefoot Army (redding), Gruk (chico), Nogoodnix (chico), Face Down (chico), Kids With Headlice (red bluff), and P.A.W.N.S. (chico). This was the last of the Suburban American comps sadly. There was almost two follow ups, but they all fell apart for various reasons.DOWNLOAD

American Waste - Their War Lyrics
When the American Waste website was still up back in 2005, I saved all the lyrics onto my computer. Sadly my computer crashed and the website went down resulting in loosing the lyrics. I owned their album Their War, but the album insert didn't included lyrics. Yesterday, though I was finally able to get all the old files from my old hard-drive and found a ton of cool stuff like American Waste lyrics! The songs Dustin sang were sadly not listed on the website. He'd left the band, so they no longer played his songs. The lyrics from this album still stand true and with more meaning to me than they did then.
Nation Under Fools (*Words written by Saundra Amador)- Hidden within the time that passed, collects dust, vanishes into life, reincarnates within the human race, it's seen where doubt is lived. it fucks the minister's son, it sleeps where bed's fail to comfort, tragedy intimidates his skin, uniform conceals it's truth. layer of lies, spoken words, shoved through society's ass, false imprisonment, hateful crime, empowered by your religion. book of lies, book made by you, cross your heart and hope to die that it's your nation under god. cross my mind and it's you that i hope dies, it's one nation under fools.
No Justice- You force your opinions of what is right and wrong, snuff the slightest spark of intelligent thought, they say they treat us equally, well that's a bunch of shit, i see it every single day and i'm so sick of it. bend the rules for the ones who make you a profit and leave behind the one with less to show because the rules only apply to those who question the status quo, i see it every single day, your society's a joke. it's time to stand up and make it known that we see through the bullshit.
Forced Labor- Forced labor, nine to five, exploit yourself to live your life, forced labor, not for me. live your life for a paycheck to me that's really fucking sad. i'm not a slave to what they say, don't want to work my youth away.
What You Thought- You thought you knew me, but what you knew was a lie, you thought you could see, but in fact you were blind. you couldn't see me until it was too late, now your life is over, and that's your fate. you thought you were happy, but you were wrong, you didn't see the problem until it was gone. they came and took everything away from you, you were left with nothing what will you do. you'll spend the rest of your life in a concrete cell, that's where you'll stay, your own personal hell. you couldn't see me until it was too late, now your life is over and that's your fate, they came and took everything away from you, you were left with nothing. (song is no longer played)
Blacklisted- What you stand for, this unjust cause, we didn't fucking approve, your corrupt foundation is built on greed and the blood of the innocent. we voiced our opinions but you shrugged it off denounced the ones who did not support your cause. blacklist the dissidents, incarcerate any resistance to benefit a nation where free thought is a crime.
Jaimie's Song (*Words written by Jaimie Taylor)- I take my time but what's time worth taking, i make up my mind but is it mine to be making, I want to hurry up but i'm scared of it running out, i dont believe our existence is what life's supposed to be about. blemishing theories, that swell in misunderstanding, brainwashed machinery is what consists of humanity. our different versions of texts teach us diversity is evil but what good can you name in our society, medicate civilians to shut them up, the quicker it works, the less they gain. but the donations pour so willingly into the pharmacist's hands, civilians shut up the pain, it's a cycle, a circle too late for salvation. what is there even to save.
Their War- Blinded by the lies they have chosen to tell, the innocent fall as our government kills, women and children all covered in blood, while thousands of overs are killed on the run. greed and corruption have plagued our streets, filled with the lies that our leaders all speak, as they send our loved ones to fight a war, that benefits the rich and excludes the poor. dont give your life, to die for their lies, justice deprived, as the innocent cry. a war over profit and complete control, a nation divided looses it's soul. war is screamed at the top of the lungs of the leaders who wont even fire the guns. they sit in their chairs as your sons all die for a country that takes innocent lives. history repeats as aggression takes hold, the hinges on coffins squeak as they close. the choice to live or the choice to die is made by the ones on the inside, make a stand, fight for what's right, dont sign away your life, defend your rights.

Middle Rung- (song no longer played, lyrics to be added soon)

Repercussions- Constantly talk shit behind my back, your sins wont go unnoticed. give me shit because you've got something to prove. you let your insecurities get the best of you. i dont want to be a part of it, your society makes me sick. spit in my face and wonder why, i dont want to be a part of it. you've got no reasons for the things you say, you've got no reasons for the things you say, put me down because i dont look like you when it comes back around what will you do. i dont want to be a part of it, your society makes me sick, you think we should just move over for you, believe it or not were not scared. now the time has come to reap what you've sewn, your hatred and torment of others has left you all alone. where will you run to now that your life is through, you've got nothing left, no one to run to.
Modern Obsession-(Song no longer played, lyrics to be added soon)
Forgotten- Steal from the poor, give to the rich, what the wealthiest want, the wealthiest got. bridges, stadiums, and streetlights too, fed only lies we cant stomach the truth. waste our money, waste our lives, watch our dreams destroyed by lies. while leaders spend and tax us to death. dirty and hungry children lie down to rest. broken hearts and broken homes. broken dreams from capitalist control.
