Redding Punk Flyers 2007

This one was in Chico, but it was a Redding show. There was no venue in town, so it got relocated. You'd think it would be hard to get people to roll an hour and half out of town just for a hardcore show, but there hadn't been a hardcore show for months. So the whole scene rolled down for this one. It was a packed show, and I remember thinking how weird that we were in Chico with no Chico people at the show haha. Also, this was Nate Corbins best flyer ever!

The Plaza was a new venue in town that opened up to strictly be a music venue. It was ran by people out of the hardcore scene, and they were really trying to make a legitimate venue. This was the first real show they did, and it was a huge deal. Tons of people came out to it including folks that didn't normally come to shows. The circle pits were two layer thick throughout the night! It was rad!

The Plaza got shut down by the city in June, so the show got moved to the BMX pad (aka a backyard house show). Curt Baer from Set It Straight was playing guitar for Dangers at the time too. Half way through the cops got called by the neighbors, and the show got shutdown. It was in the middle of Dangers set, so they decided to end it with their song "Half Brother All Cop." Set It Straight was the only band that didn't get to play that night.

This was a fun summer show. People were swimming in the pool in the backyard between bands and then running back inside to the garage. The concrete was soaked and people were sliding everywhere. For Scared to Death's set, we were playing again on July 25, so we did nothing but covers to keep things fresh. We did a bunch of Circle Jerks, Minor Threat, and even a couple Ceremony songs just for shits and giggle since they were playing town on the 25th. At the end of Broadway Calls' set, a fight broke out between two guys. There was only a punch or two thrown, but they smashed a huge hole in one of the garage walls. So that was the end of the show. Rachid's Garage was actually Rachid's Parent's Garage, and they were out of town. Not sure if Rachid got in trouble for that or not ha.

People quickly realized that this happening at Rachid's Garage was not a good idea. Violence Violence era Ceremony in a tiny garage!? So it got moved to a new bigger venue in town.

What can I say, I only had MS Paint at the time to make flyers, so I tried my best haha. Also HIV cancelled and High Jinks from Edmonton, Alberta played instead.

Danny McCall's flyer was much better even with it missing the date! :)

This was Set It Straights' last Redding show before they broke up, and Skeletons last show ever.

The venue got changed to the Underground (a music store at the time) for this one because Homegrown couldn't host shows anymore due to landlord issues.

This was a wild one. It was a party house behind Gold Street Liquor that had never done a hardcore show before. The vibe was weird all night between people at the house and people who came out for the show. I don't remember why exactly, but the cops got called around the end and a ton of them showed up! There was like 10 cop cars lined up in front of the house. I was trying to leave with my friends in my car, but we got blocked in by all the cops. We were stuck in the car, so we were watching through the back window trying to figure out what the hell was happening, and we saw a kid get arrested on the sidewalk in front of the house. We were all like "what the fuck is going on!?" Eventually the cops began to leave, so we left the moment we could. I don't think there was ever another hardcore show there.

This was a strong one to end the year on. There had been a fight between the city and the hardcore scene for over year at this point. From members of Set It Straight getting arrested back in 2006 at a skate park show to the Plaza getting shut down. We had been going to city hall pressing them on the issue that the youth needed to have an outlet for music. Eventually Ben Paulsen (Set It Straight / The Separation) made a connection with Callie Burgard at the city youth council that got us access to city owned venues like the Caldwell Rec Center and the MLK Center. This was the first one, and it went off! It was a stacked mixed bill with no problems and no cops. A beautiful way to wrap up the year.

This one was in 2006, but Godzilla destroying the Sundial Bride deserves a shoutout! I think this may have been Skeletons first show too.
