The very first Redding hardcore/punk show I ever went to was with Till Death, American Standard (later American Waste), The Red Robot, Barefoot Army, and The Melodramatics at the Millville Grange with my cousin Ryan Dodge and Terrence Fannin. I didn't know anyone else at the show except for Ryan and Terrance, so I felt really shy and awkward. The very first person I ran into after walking in the door, though, was Nate Corbin. We already knew each other from skating the CV park together, so we started talking. After talking for a little while, Shannen Hansen (now the drummer in Hysterics) came up with some pictures to show Nate she'd taken of a band playing. I noticed one of them was with Nate on drums. I asked, "you play in a band?" He said "yeah, we're playing tonight too." The band was Till Death, and their set ruled! It was filled with circle pits and a 7 Seconds cover of "Young Till I Die." A week or so later, I ran into Nate at the CV skate park with Ryan and Terrance, and he gave us three burned copies of Till Death's "Patchcord Sessions." If I remember right, though, only one of them actually worked haha. But it didn't really matter, because we were stoked he took the time hook us up. Listening to the "Patchcord Sessions" always takes me back to that time in my life and in the scene. Feeling shy, but extremely excited to be at the shows and be part of the energy.
